I purchased this microscope to be able to examine coins a lot closer and take photos. It works just as advertised. Led's reflect in the picture if the coin is inside a reflective surface(plastic case, etc).

5 out of 5 stars A Little Getting Use To, But Overall Nice Scope!   December 16, 2009

Watch Video Here: http://www.amazon.com/review/R83A34U70CBX1 The video shown with this scope is a seems to be a "frame by frame" video.

The First 1 minute & 50 seconds of the video the scope was hand held. The LAST 75 seconds (fast forward to 1:50 for a better view) was then placed in the stand/holder.

The accessory stand is the best feature for my shaky hands!

The Cricket is being held buy a pair of tweezers and was not injured in this video but was eaten by my Praying Mantis :)

5 out of 5 stars Great Price. Windows 7 Support.   February 6, 2010

We chose this microscope not knowing what to expect. My wife has MS and it has a direct effect on her vision, so she uses this scope for reading, and seeing things that are difficult view. For the quality of this unit, I feel like we didn't pay enough for it. I could probably be critical about its performance, if I were employed in some scientific profession, or if I just enjoyed criticizing quality by specifications. I don't. This model is perfect for a home user, and probably for professional uses too.

There are 32bit and 64bit versions of the software for Windows 7 (and XP, Vista, etc.) available at the manufacturers download site. That in itself is the reason we pulled the trigger. We run Windows 7 on all of our machines, 32bit and 64bit, so its nice to be able to use this microscope on any of them.

I snagged the microscope the other day to zoom in on some o-rings that were leaking. The o-rings were on Danger Den/Fat Boy fittings installed in a D'Tek waterblock. I was really able to show the difference, with pictures, when describing the problem regarding the o-ring size.

5 out of 5 stars Great Little Item   March 7, 2010

I purchased one for myself and liked it so much that I purchased one for my Laboratory.
It takes a little effort to focus but it's not that hard to do. A diffuser for the LEDs of some sort would help when photographing shiny objects.

4 out of 5 stars works well, a bit touchy, no linux drivers   August 31, 2009

works well, takes still and movie images. a little touchy on the focus, a bit like cheap binoculars, but it works once you get the hang of it. I also wanted to setup on Linux, but the imaging chip is not standard. I inquired with Celstron and their technical support line replied that it's proprietary. Oh well, at least it works well under windows. I have example images and movie of insects from my garden at mentalfest dot blogspot dot com. Overall, I feel it's a good value for personal hobby use.
